The Classic & Vintage Car Show returns to Stone Harbor on Columbus Day Weekend.
See below for details!

LAST WEEKEND'S WEATHER brought three days of wind, rain, and minor flooding to the island.  Early in the week winds eased somewhat, but intermittent rain and grey skies persisted well into this week.  Many of last weekend's events were cancelled or postponed as a result.  See below for updates on many favorite events!

THE COLUMBUS DAY WEEKEND brings two popular events to town:

--THE AVALON ARTS & SEAFOOD FESTIVAL means fresh local seafood combined with live music, crafts, and vendors.  Visit the Festival Saturday, October 7th at Surfside Park from 10am to 5pm.  Enjoy local seafood and local music together by the ocean!

--STONE HARBOR'S CLASSIC & VINTAGE CAR SHOW returns again this year, on Saturday, October 7th.  Vehicles of all makes and models will line the 200-block of 96th Street from 10am until 1pm, with a parade to follow at 1:30pm.  The show is free to attend, so check out some cars, do some shopping, grab lunch, and watch the parade!  If you'd like to register your vehicle (15 years or older, email Tourism@SHNJ.org

SAVOR SEPTEMBER—IN OCTOBER!  Stone Harbor's annual Savor September event has been rescheduled to October 21st from 11am to 6pm.  Enjoy live music, food, local breweries and wineries, and plenty of family fun!

SEASONAL FLU VACCINES are offered by Cape May County at more than a dozen times and locations, beginning October 15th.  For dates, times, and locations, plus the required consent form, visit here

THE 96TH STREET BRIDGE drawbridge span is slated for future replacement.  The current movable span was built in the 1930s and has suffered mechanical and structural issues for many years.  A public meeting was held earlier this week so members of the public could review preliminary design plans.  The replacement span will be similar to the current one, and is expected to provide boats with similar navigational clearances (vertical and horizontal) when in the closed position.  The current approach spans were built in the 1980s and will remain in place, except for a small section at the east end of the bridge, which will be raised slightly.  Preliminary design work is underway; construction work is not expected to begin until 2025.

Current News: 9/14/2023

September is a popular time to visit the beach—but use caution.  Lifeguard coverage has ended in Avalon, and is limited in Stone Harbor.  With Hurricane Lee approaching, rough surf and rip currents are expected over the weekend.

WATCHING LEE: Hurricane Lee is predicted to travel northward in the Atlantic without making landfall anywhere near New Jersey.  However, Lee's winds will generate large, long-period ocean swells and high surf, both of which are expected to affect South Jersey.  Strong rip currents are expected on our beaches, too.  Avalon Beach Patrol has concluded operations for the season, and cautions swimmers to not enter the water.  Stone Harbor currently has guards stationed at 83rd Street, 95th Street, 100th Street, and 108th Street.

REMEMBERING JIMMY BUFFETT: The last "Thursday at Surfside" concert drew hundreds of spectators to watch Peter Mayer, the lead guitarist of Jimmy Buffett's Coral Reefer Band, perform.  Mayer performed original music as well as covers of well-known Buffett tunes, and fondly remembered Buffett, who passed away September 1st.

OUR "SECOND SUMMER" IS HERE!  It's a little quieter, the crowds are a little thinner, and yet the weather is beautiful, and nearly all our shops and restaurants remain open.  The fall is a wonderful time to experience the shore!

60 PROPERTIES are currently under contract in the local market, with settlement dates scheduled throughout the fall.  What a way to ensure that YOU enjoy your own "Second Summer!"  Want to join in the fun?  Call or email me to discuss a purchase of your very own shore property!

ANOTHER ONE UNDER CONTRACT!  The brand-new luxury townhomes and condos at 29th & Dune are selling!  Don't miss your chance to acquire one of these beautiful units!  Contact me today to arrange a private showing!

News: 9/7/2023

AND JUST LIKE THAT, Summer 2023 came to a close!  The Labor Day Weekend brought many property owners and visitors, all looking to enjoy the last three-day weekend of Summer 2023.  Our beaches, business districts, and waterways were quite busy!  Most shops and restaurants reported good crowds (and Monday afternoon's westbound traffic proves it!)

75 & GLORIOUS!  That sums up Friday & Saturday of the Labor Day Weekend, as cool, dry air and warm sunshine made for fabulous weather.  Sunday and Monday unseasonably hot & humid air began moving in, and highs were expected to reach the mid-nineties this week.  Relief is once again expected this coming weekend, with temperatures expected to ease to the low eighties.

LIFEGUARD COVERAGE is reduced during September, as many guards have returned home or to school.  Avalon beaches will be unguarded through Friday (September 9th), while Stone Harbor will have guards at 83rd Street, 95th Street, and 108th Street.   The Avalon Beach Patrol has emphasized rip current advisories issued by the National Weather Service due to large offshore storms systems in the Atlantic, and urges swimmers to enter the water only in the presence of lifeguards.

THE FALL SEASON means the end of many daily and nightly summer activities on the island, but fall weekends bring with them many festivals, shows, and other events.  See below for a list of some of the fun things happening, and come on back for a weekend if you can!
