BEACH REPLENISHMENT WORK is in full swing now,
with crews pumping sand 24 hours a day.
IN AVALON: Sand
is being added to the beach, and work has progressed southward of
13th Street as of Tuesday. Finished beaches are noticeably wider than
before! The beach and access paths are closed in the immediate vicinity
of the work, and then reopened as work progresses southward.
IN STONE
HARBOR: Pipe will be placed on the beach in preparation for
pumping operations in Stone Harbor, and temporary signage will be
installed. Sand pumping operations will shift to Stone Harbor when work
is completed in Avalon, anticipated sometime next month.
NBC10 in Philadelphia ran a story on the local beach
fill project.

THIRTY
DAYS UNTIL MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND! The summer season will kick
off soon—you can feel it on the island. There's a "buzz" of activity as
final preparations are made, properties are prepared, streets are being
repaved, and landscapes and flower beds are bursting with new growth and
bright colors. Boats are being readied for the water, lifeguard stands
will soon line the beach, and local restaurants and merchants are ready
to welcome you.

A MASSIVE
campground fire occurred in Seaville, Cape May County last
week, after leaking propane ignited. Seaville Fire Company responded to
the wind driven fire, which destroyed 12 trailers and damaged 14 more,
and spread to nearby wooded areas. 26 fire departments responded to the
scene, including over 100 firefighters and multiple water tankers from
Cape May and Atlantic Counties, and the blaze was under control after
three hours. Firefighters remained on scene for seven hours, wetting
down hot spots. The fire serves as a good reminder to make sure your
smoke detectors are in good working order and that you have an
up-to-date fire extinguisher readily available.

of ParkMobile. The free app can be added to your smartphone and used to
pay for your parking spot. Find the app in the App Store or Google

Brand new, and ready for you! Stone Harbor's
101st Street pavilion was completely rebuilt during the off season.
The next time you visit the island, stop by to enjoy the shade, the sea
breeze, and a panoramic view of the ocean and dunes!
55-INCH STRIPER CAUGHT! Stripers have shown up in local
waters, and while both "shorts" and "keepers" are being caught, a 55-inch
fish was the talk among local fishers this week. The huge striper was caught
and released in the Delaware Bay, and according to the Atlantic City Press,
it swam away. Perhaps it will be caught again someday!
NO MORE STONE HARBOR FIRE SIREN: Remember the days of
hearing the borough-wide fire siren sound, and stepping out of the house or
off the deck to see if you could spot fire trucks and see where they were
headed? As of last week, those days are a memory--Stone Harbor's fire siren
will no longer be activated for fire calls; instead, it will only be used
for Emergency Management purposes. The siren will be tested on the first
Wednesday of the month between noon and 1pm.

Harbor next month. Most importantly, make sure you have enough new carts to

BEACH REPLENISHMENT UPDATE! The dredge "Texas"
is currently undergoing maintenance work in New York, and is expected to
depart for Avalon about April 10th. By then other equipment is expected
to have arrived in the area. Sand pumping is expected to begin in Avalon
between April 12th and April 14th, and will continue around the clock
for 25 days, stopping only for unsafe weather or mechanical issues.
581,000 cubic yards of new sand are expected on Avalon's beaches, from
9th Street, working southward. About 1,000 linear feet of beach will be
closed surrounding the active work area. When sand pumping concludes in
Avalon around May 7th, two days of mobilization will be required to move
operations to Stone Harbor, where sand pumping will begin about May 9th.
Stone Harbor expects to receive 714,000 cubic yards of sand over 49 days
of round-the-clock pumping, concluding around June 27th.
HIGH WINDS AND HEAVY THUNDERSTORMS passed through the
area Saturday evening. Winds quickly picked up to an average of 30mph
and gusts to 60mph were observed. The line of storms moved through so
quickly that there was minimal damage in our immediate area. Other areas
saw numerous trees downed, and a water spout was confirmed in Atlantic
City.
NEW TRASH & RECYCLING CARTS will be
in use in both Avalon and Stone Harbor this season. Avalon will deliver
new trash and recycling carts to properties between May 1st and May
15th, while Stone Harbor property owners will need to purchase their own
carts. Be sure you have enough carts at your property to accommodate the
trash and recycling material generated during peak occupancy of your
property—especially if you are a rental property owner! See the FAQ for

IT'S A BEAUTIFUL NOISE! Stand on most any corner on
Seven Mile Island and chances are good you'll hear that beautiful
noise—the sound of new construction! It's the sound of hammers, saws,
drills, trucks delivering materials, and cranes raising them up, as an
army of tradespeople work to turn "sticks and bricks" into a finished
product. It's also an indicator of the strength of our local market, and
the desire of so many people to enjoy our island!
Perhaps
most exciting for us is watching our new office space—and the
residential units above—take shape!
HAVE A BUSINESS? Looking for a prestigious spot to locate on
Seven Mile Island? The new commercial space adjacent to our office—and
under construction right now—is available! Contact me for details!
