SUMMER SONG is a three-minute video showing clips of a family vacation filmed in Stone Harbor, set to a catchy tune aptly named "The Summer" by Josh Pyke.  The video is 15 years old but features high quality clips, and it'll put a smile on your face.  Take a three-minute break from winter, and enjoy a bit of summer!  Watch the video here:

QUESTION: WHAT'S OPEN FOR DINNER?  Answer: Lots of places, especially on weekends!  There are some tried and true island favorites that are open seven days a week, such as The Princeton,  Polpo, Avalon Brew Pub, The Reeds at Shelter Haven, and Fred's Tavern, plus many more that are now open on weekends, such as The Rock-n-Chair, Ristorante Luciano, and Spiaggetta.  More will be opening up in the coming weeks.  If you're here—during the week or on the weekend—check online for hours, and to make reservations!

THE STONE HARBOR FARMERS MARKET will move from the water tower lot to the 94th Street parking lot this summer.  More space at the 94th Street lot will allow for both more vendors and shoppers when the popular market is open on summer Sundays.

85 DAYS UNTIL MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND!  That's right, the unofficial summer kick off weekend is less than three months away!

IN THE NEWS:

GOOD NEWS FOR FLOOD INSURANCE POLICIES IN STONE HARBOR:  After dropping to a Level 7 rating last April when Community Rating System points earned after Superstorm Sandy expired, the Borough of Stone Harbor now expects to qualify for at least the Level 5 rating it had before.  Thanks to the efforts of Stone Harbor Community Rating System liaison Ray Poudrier and municipal engineering firm DeBlasio & Associates, the borough may even qualify for a better Level 4 rating.  The Federal Emergency Management Agency must complete its own review to confirm the borough's new rating level.  Each level on the CRS system earns flood insurance policy holders in the borough a 5% premium discount.

CAPE REGIONAL HEALTH SYSTEM intends to merge with Cooper University Health System.  The proposed merger must undergo a state review process before it can move forward.  At a recent public hearing representatives from the hospitals and officials from Cape May County spoke in support of the merger.  Cape Regional Health System operates Cape Regional Medical Center in Cape May Court House, along with a network of other care centers throughout the county.

NEWS 2/8/2024:

It won't be long until summer days are upon us!
Want to make this your best summer yet?  See below!

IN THE NEWS:

AVALON MUST CONSERVE WATER, said Borough Administrator Scott Wahl at a council meeting last month.  Last summer Avalon was pumping all five of its wells at full capacity during times of peak usage, utilizing 87% of the water allocated to the borough by the state.  Wahl cited automatic irrigation systems among the factors contributing to overuse.  Wahl also said the borough itself is guilty of overuse, pointing to the 8th Street athletic fields, which Wahl said performed just as well with every-other-day irrigation instead of daily watering.

PARKING was discussed again by Stone Harbor Borough Council, as the current system was reviewed for potential changes ahead of the 2024 season.  For 2023 a new system was introduced using the Park Mobile app to replace traditional parking meters and payment kiosks, resulting in a significant increase in parking violations issued during the summer season.  Among the options discussed were more and better signage and the addition of new parking payment kiosks.  Also cited as a favorite among the public is the elimination of paid parking altogether (Avalon doesn't charge for parking), but others fear it would result in less "turnover" in the business district, hurting merchants.

THE BEACH BOYS will join Luke Bryan, Keith Urban, and many others at the 2024 Barefoot Country Music Festival in Wildwood. Over 40 artists are expected at the four-day show on the beach, and new artists are being announced regularly.  This year's BCMF will take place on the beach June 20th-23rd, in Wildwood.
